Prevention (PZR) & bleaching in Düsseldorf
Bleaching
"Dental bleaching" means lightening natural teeth! By current standards, the method of choice is what is known as "home bleaching".
What is "dental bleaching"?
In a first session, we examine your teeth for leaking fillings and cracks in the enamel.
As preliminary treatment, tartar is removed and the teeth are polished. Leaking fillings, which would give the bleaching agent unwanted access to the dental nerve, are replaced. Your decision to bleach your teeth is therefore also a sensible occasion to renew outdated fillings.
Our approach
Bleaching in Düsseldorf
Once the preliminary treatment is complete, we take impressions to make plaster models of your upper and lower jaw. A specialised dental laboratory then makes your personal bleaching tray on these models.
The bleaching tray must end precisely at the tooth so that your gums are protected from the bleaching agent.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Bleaching (tooth whitening).
As a rule, your bleaching tray is worn for 5 nights. To protect the hard tooth tissue, a 2-day rhythm is recommended, i.e. you should always take a day off between wearing the tray, so that hypersensitivity of the enamel to hot and cold, for example, is avoided or eased. The final bleaching result is usually reached after 10 days.
In rare cases there has been hypersensitivity to hot and cold, but without exception it has subsided within a short time. As mentioned above, hypersensitivity can be avoided by taking 1-day breaks from bleaching.
Depending on the cause of the discolouration, results lasting 2–3 years have been described. If you enjoy coffee or tea, smoke, etc., earlier darkening of the teeth unfortunately cannot be ruled out. In that case you can re-bleach your teeth at regular intervals (e.g. every 9–12 months). You can reuse your individually made tray as often as needed. We keep refills of the bleaching agent ready for you.
Non-vital teeth often darken over time after a root canal treatment. Special methods are available for bleaching non-vital teeth.
For "home bleaching" we use 10% carbamide peroxide, from which 3.5% hydrogen peroxide is activated in a chemical process as the bleaching agent that ultimately takes effect. Contact with the gums should be avoided; this is ensured anyway by your bleaching tray, which is precisely confined to the tooth. The latest studies carried out in the USA have even shown an antibacterial effect of the bleaching agent on the spaces between the teeth, which we welcome from a dental point of view.
